معرفی
Carmen Gaina serves as Professor and Director of the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (CEED) at the University of Oslo's Department of Geosciences, leading a 75-member research team focused on Earth system dynamics.
- PhD in Geology and Geophysics, University of Sydney (1999)
- MSc in Geology, Geophysics and Geography, University of Bucharest (1987)
Her research pioneers geophysical data interpretation and planetary tectonics modeling, with specialized expertise in polar region crustal evolution and seafloor morphology reconstruction. She integrates Solid Earth dynamics with ocean-atmosphere systems across geological timescales through advanced data assimilation techniques.
Gaina directs major international projects including the €10 million Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (2018-2023) and co-leads ESA's 3D-EARTH initiative, driving innovations in global geochemical budget analysis and volcanic-plate tectonic interactions in Arctic regions.
- Elected Member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (2017)
She has supervised 5 Master's graduates and 4 PhD graduates while currently mentoring 2 doctoral candidates, including cross-institutional collaborations with Iceland University. Her leadership extends to Arctic field expeditions aboard R/V Meteor and OGS Explora, advancing seafloor imaging in the Indian and Arctic Oceans.
As CEED Director since 2016, Gaina manages Norway's premier Earth science research center while serving on national boards including the Climate Studies Research School (CHESS), shaping geoscience education policy across Scandinavian institutions.
