Carmela Pestell

Carmela Pestell is a Professor in the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia, specializing in clinical neuropsychology. She directs postgraduate programs and developed the Graduate Certificate in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder diagnosis. Her research focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders, brain injury outcomes, and cognitive rehabilitation across the lifespan.

Pestell's work investigates diagnostic methods for fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and neuropsychological interventions for brain injury patients. She examines cognitive functioning, emotion regulation, and mental health outcomes in clinical populations.

Her research has received recognition including the Australian Psychological Society President's Award and the Vice Chancellor's Award in Research Mentorship. Pestell leads multiple research projects on neurocognitive assessment and intervention strategies.
