Carmel Foley

Professor Carmel Foley is Head of the Management Department at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Business School. She holds a PhD from UTS and has served in leadership roles including Deputy Head and Associate Head of various departments since 2016. Her research focuses on business events' economic and social impacts, with a mission to drive global community prosperity through evidence-based methodologies.

Key projects include the Business Event Legacies textbook, the Conference Legacy Project (Christchurch NZ), and the Value of Meetings Case Study Project for the Joint Meetings Industry Council. Her work influences public policy and redefines global event valuation standards.

Teaching emphasizes critical thinking and citizenship, earning her a National Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. She supervises students in event management, impact evaluation, and social justice. Recent research explores graduate attributes via university clubs, post-pandemic conference models, and immersive festival experiences.

Awards include the UTS 2021 VC’s Learning and Teaching Award for Social Impact and recognition as a finalist in Research Excellence through Partnership. She chairs major reviews, including the 2024 Department of Tourism, Sport and Hotel Management review.
