Carman Neustaedter

Dr. Carman Neustaedter is Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology at Simon Fraser University, leading the Connections Lab (clab) research group. His human-computer interaction research develops communication technologies for families, workplaces, and emergency contexts, with particular focus on telepresence systems, domestic computing, and next-generation 911 solutions.

Research investigates:

• Telepresence robotics for shared experiences across distance
• Co-located interaction with smart home technologies
• Design of video communication systems for emergency response
• Collaborative tools for distributed teams

Recent publications examine video calling efficacy in emergencies and intergenerational play technologies. Methodologies combine qualitative fieldwork with iterative prototyping.
