Carly Maree Vickers

Carly Maree Vickers is a design practitioner, researcher, and Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), currently serving as Director of the UNSW Innovation Hub. This initiative focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration to drive societal impact through project-based solutions. Her work bridges design methodologies with music performance, informed by her background in orchestral music and conducting. She leads the Innovation Hub’s expansion into a university-wide program under UNSW’s 'Progress for All' strategy.

• Education: PhD in Interdisciplinary Creative Practice (UNSW, 2022), BDes (First Class Honours, UNSW, 2011), BMus Studies (Performance, Sydney Conservatorium, 2005).

Her research explores gesture in live music performance and visual communication, with a focus on collaborative systems in academia and industry. Teaching roles include convening design studios and entrepreneurship courses in the Master of Design program. Awards highlight her contributions to teaching excellence and innovative design.

Key affiliations include the ADA Innovation Hub (founded in 2021), where her systems for interdisciplinary collaboration are adopted across her faculty. She actively engages with grants and has secured funding such as the 2022 Education-Focussed School Grant.
