Dr Belinda Jane Dunstan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture, and Principal Lead of the UNSW Creative Robotics Lab. Her multidisciplinary research bridges fine art, design, architecture, education, and social robotics to explore 'critical-futuring'—examining how technology will shape human activity. She pioneered Australia's first Social Robotics minor in the Bachelor of Design and convenes courses in Interior Architecture and Computational Design.
- Research Interests: Social robot morphology, technology ethics, cultural robotics, appearance design, movement planning, and future cultural implications of social robots.
- Grants: UNSW ADA Early Career Researcher Development Fund (2025), UNSW Built Environment Seed Funding (2025), UNSW Built Environment Early Career Research Grant (2021), CoBuild 4.0 (2018), and multiple Faculty Travel Grants (2015–2014).
- Education: PhD in Creative Robotics from UNSW Art & Design, Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours), and Bachelor of Art Education from UNSW Art & Design.
Scientific Awards: Recipient of the SIDA Foundation International Travel Award (2025), Scientia Education Academy Exemplary Teaching Practice Award (2024), and multiple UNSW CATEI and Dean’s Awards for teaching excellence. She also received the UNSW Isenberg Award for Excellence in Sculpture (2013).
Research Leadership: As Principal Lead of the UNSW Creative Robotics Lab, she drives innovation in socially integrated robotics. Her supervision focuses on social robotics, robot morphology, technology ethics, and interior architecture critical theory.
