Dr. Carly Demopoulos is an Associate Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), with a joint appointment in Radiology. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Illinois Institute of Technology and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Neuroscience at UCSF. Her research focuses on sensorimotor mechanisms in neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly autism spectrum disorders (ASD), employing multimodal neuroimaging, behavioral, and neuropsychological approaches. Key areas include speech and voice characteristics, sensory-motor control, and neural connectivity in ASD.
- Affiliations: UCSF School of Medicine, UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences
- Education: PhD (2013, Clinical Psychology, Illinois Institute of Technology), Postdoctoral Fellowship (2018, UCSF)
Her research integrates neuroimaging techniques like MEG and fMRI to study speech motor control, sensory processing, and neural connectivity in ASD. Notable grants include NIH R01 support for sensorimotor studies and a Weill Award for Clinical Neuroscience Research. She has led clinical trials for tinnitus treatment and contributed to understanding genetic influences (e.g., 16p11.2 deletions). Awards include DEI mentorship supplements and Autism Speaks grants. Her lab, the Neurodevelopmental Assessment & Imaging Laboratory, explores translational neuroscience in ASD and sensorimotor disorders.
