Carlotta Pavese is a Professor of Philosophy at the Sage School of Philosophy, Cornell University. As of September 2025, she will assume the role of Fulford Clarendon Professor of Philosophy and Cognitive Science at Oxford University and become a Fulford Fellow at St. Catherine's College. Previously, she held positions as Andrew Mellon Assistant Professor (2018–2019) and Assistant Professor (2014–2018) at Duke University, and Bersoff Assistant Professor/Faculty Fellow of Philosophy at NYU (2013–2014). She completed her graduate studies in Philosophy at Rutgers University.
Her research focuses on philosophy of mind, cognitive science, philosophy of language, epistemology, action theory, and linguistics (with a focus on formal semantics and syntax). She is known for interdisciplinary work bridging philosophy and cognitive science.
Pavese serves as an editor of the Philosophical Review, area editor of Ergo, and associate editor of Analysis Reviews, while contributing to numerous other editorial boards. Her background includes growing up in Calamandrana, Italy, as a first-generation college student in a family with a long-standing carpentry business.
