Carlos Zepeda Castillo

Dr. Carlos Zepeda Castillo is a Researcher at King’s College London’s Department of War Studies, School of Security Studies, focusing on climate security, international cooperation in disaster response, and political ecology. His current ESRC-funded project examines Caribbean tropical storm governance. He previously served as Assistant Director at the Laudato Si’ Research Institute, bridging academia with civil society and policy on environmental justice.

Education:

• Bachelor’s in Economics (Universidad Centroamericana, 2003)

Research Interests: Climate security, Caribbean disaster governance, securitization of climate data, AI in climate adaptation, political ecology, and ethical policy frameworks in the Global South. He actively engages with UN agencies like WMO and UNEP, co-chairing the Faith for Earth Initiative (2023–2024) to integrate faith-based communities into environmental policy.

Grants & Partnerships: Led ESRC-funded Caribbean storm governance research, expanded global partnerships at the University of Portsmouth via the Development Studies Group, and developed SOAS’s MSc programs in International Development and Humanitarian Action.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Early Warning for All initiative (EWFA) and the World Resources Institute on climate justice. Engages with grassroots movements through NGOs like Oxfam and CIDSE.
