Dr. Carlos Vidales is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of La Verne's Cástulo de la Rocha College of Health and Community Well-Being. He holds a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University (2023) with a focus on quantitative psychology and preparing future faculty. His research centers on substance use, diversity/social justice, and measurement invariance across marginalized groups, particularly men of color. He has published extensively on stigma in mental health help-seeking and intervention strategies. Dr. Vidales teaches courses in psychological measurement, research methods, and substance use treatment, emphasizing multicultural pedagogy and student empowerment.
His clinical work includes person-centered therapy, group counseling, and supervising mandated substance misuse interventions. He co-developed a collegiate recovery center and has expertise in personality/trauma assessments. Awards include the John and Elaine Bath Award and multiple teaching recognitions. His future research aims to expand culturally sensitive interventions for substance use disorders among men of color using social ecological frameworks.
