Carlos Mariscal is Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Nevada, Reno, specializing in the philosophy of astrobiology and origins of life. A former Herzberg Postdoctoral Fellow at Dalhousie University, he holds a PhD from Duke University. His research examines fundamental questions about life's definition, origin, and potential distribution in the universe.
Mariscal's teaching focuses on intersections between science and philosophy, including courses in Philosophy of Science, Cognitive Science, and Science/Technology/Society relations. His research addresses the directionality of evolution, nature of extremophiles, and ethical dimensions of emerging biotechnologies.
