Carlos Javier Gil Arbiol

Carlos Javier Gil Arbiol is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Theology of the Comillas Pontifical University, affiliated with the Department of Sacred Scripture and Church History. He holds a PhD in Biblical Theology from the University of Deusto, where he taught for over two decades (2000-2001 to 2023-2024). Since the 2024-2025 academic year, he has contributed to theological discourse at Comillas Pontifical University.

His research focuses on the Origins of Christianity and Pauline Literature, with a particular emphasis on the Reception of Paul in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. His recent publications explore themes such as space and marginality in early Christian communities, Paul’s relationship with Judaism, and gender perspectives in biblical exegesis.

His work includes analyses of spatial theory in Christian identity formation, theological interpretations of the Passion’s secondary characters, and the application of postcolonial frameworks to Pauline ecclesiology. Notable articles examine the Good Samaritan’s ethical implications, Paul’s marginality as a theological model, and the interplay between physical borders and early Christian expansion.
