Carlos Grenier is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Florida International University (FIU). His research focuses on religion and politics in the late medieval and early modern Islamic worlds, with expertise in Sufism, Ottoman frontier dynamics, and sacred-historical narratives. He holds a doctorate in History from the University of Chicago.
Education: PhD in History (University of Chicago).
Research Interests: Grenier explores the intersection of Islam, governance, and cultural identity in historical contexts. His work examines how religious practices shaped political landscapes in the Balkans, Mediterranean, and Ottoman territories. Current projects include studies on Sufism's role in statecraft and narrative traditions in 15th-16th century Islamic societies.
