Dr. Carlos Alfaro Zaforteza is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of War Studies at King's College London, within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. He is affiliated with the Laughton Naval History Unit and collaborates with the Strategic Leadership project, a joint initiative of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas and the Instituto Español de Estudios Estratégicos in Madrid. His research focuses on Spanish and Latin American foreign and defense policy, naval history, maritime security, and theories of sea power. He lectures on topics such as naval strategy and maritime crime, including courses like 'Pirates off the Starboard Bow' and 'Navies and Sea Power 1793–2017.'
