Dr. Carlos G. Alemán is a Professor in the School of Communication Studies at James Madison University. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in Speech Communication from California State University, Fresno, and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa. His research focuses on cultural identity, family communication, immigrant advocacy, and Latinx health beliefs. A first-generation college student, he co-directs the SCOM Summer Study Abroad Program in Ireland and collaborates on projects like Immigrant Harrisonburg and the Scholars Latino Initiative. Recognized with multiple awards for community engagement, he also serves as a Professor in Residence supporting underserved high school students.

Research Interests: Explores race, narrative inheritance in multicultural families, and the intersection of communication with environmental and health issues.
