Polytechnic University of Cataloniaمعرفی
Carlos Agelet de Saracibar is a Full Professor of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of Civil Engineering (ETS Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos) at Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC BarcelonaTech) since 2003. He also serves as an Associated Scientist at the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) since 1988. His academic career includes previous positions as Associate Professor (1991-2003) and Assistant Professor (1988-1991) at UPC BarcelonaTech, and he was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University's Division of Applied Mechanics in 1993-1994.
His educational background includes a Dr. Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (1990), Diploma de Postgrado en Métodos Numéricos para Cálculo y Diseño en Ingeniería (1986), and Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (1985), all from UPC BarcelonaTech. He has held significant leadership roles including Vice-Dean of Research, Chair of the Research & Doctoral Committee, and Head of the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering (1997-2005).
Professor Agelet de Saracibar's research focuses on nonlinear computational mechanics of solids, with particular emphasis on finite element technology, non-linear constitutive models, contact mechanics, coupled thermo-mechanical problems, and numerical simulation of material forming and production processes. His work spans both basic research in computational methods and applied research in manufacturing processes including casting, friction stir welding, and additive manufacturing. He has published 38 research papers in JCR indexed scientific journals, 125 communications in international conferences, 10 research monographs, and 5 book chapters, in addition to authoring the textbook Nonlinear Continuum Mechanics - An Engineering Approach published by Springer.
His publication record shows a strong focus on computational mechanics applied to manufacturing processes, particularly friction stir welding (FSW), with numerous papers on numerical modeling, material flow visualization, and process optimization. His research has evolved from fundamental computational mechanics to increasingly applied problems in industrial manufacturing, with a consistent emphasis on developing robust numerical methods for complex thermo-mechanical problems.
