Carlo Morabito

Carlo Morabito is a Full Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Reggio Calabria, Italy, where he has served since 1989. He held significant leadership roles including Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (2001-2008), Vice-Rector for Internationalization (2014-2022), and Deputy Rector (2018). He is currently a Foreign Member of the Royal Academy of Doctors, Barcelona (since 2004) and was elected to the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences (RACEF) on March 20, 2025.

His education includes a Laurea degree (Summa cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Naples (1985). Prior to academia, he served as a Lieutenant at the Italian Army Technical School (1985-1987) and worked as a Researcher at Selenia SpA on radar algorithms and SAR data processing.

Professor Morabito's research centers on Neural Networks and Fuzzy Systems with applications spanning Biomedical Engineering (EEG artifact reduction, neurological diagnostics), Plasma Physics (disruption prediction in fusion reactors), Signal Processing (nonlinear circuits, complex networks), and Environmental Monitoring (electromagnetic pollution). His prolific output includes over 350 publications, 40 book chapters, and editorial leadership across major journals, yielding Google Scholar metrics of h-index 43 and 7,702 citations. His work demonstrates strong interdisciplinary convergence between computational intelligence and engineering solutions.

Professor Morabito directs the Italian Workshop on Neural Networks (WIRN) and leads the Italian Society of Neural Networks (SIREN) as President since 2008. His international engagement includes Vice Presidency for Public Relations at INNS (2022-), IEEE-IJCNN Plenary Chair (2015), and organizing major conferences like WCCI 2020. He also founded the "Eduardo R. Caianiello" International Science Prize for Neural Network Research Excellence.
