Carlo Favero is a Professor of Economics at Bocconi University, holding academic roles since 1994. He serves as Research Unit Director for the Macroeconomic Trends, Cycles and Asset Prices (MTCAP) unit. He holds a PhD from Oxford University and has been affiliated with Bocconi’s Department of Finance (2009–2023) and Department of Economics (since 2023).
His research focuses on macroeconomic trends, monetary policy, and econometric modeling, particularly in fiscal policy analysis. He is a research fellow at CEPR’s International Macroeconomics programme and a fellow of the Innocenzo Gasparini Institute for Economic Research (IGIER). He advises the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and the European Parliament’s Monetary Policy Expert Panel (ECON Committee, since 2024). His notable work includes co-authoring Austerity. When it Works and When it Doesn’t (2019), which won the Hayek Book Prize (2020).
Favero has consulted for the European Commission, World Bank, and European Central Bank on monetary policy and bond markets. His expertise bridges theoretical econometrics and policy application, with contributions to stock-flow consistent economic modeling and global financial dynamics.
