Carlo Alberto Gemignani

Carlo Alberto Gemignani is a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Parma, affiliated with the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Heritage. His work focuses on historical geography, environmental heritage, and landscape transformations.

• Education: PhD in Historical Geography (University of Genoa, 2007); Degree in Conservation of Cultural Heritage (University of Genoa, 2003).

Research Interests

Gemignani investigates:

• Historical transformations of urban, rural, and coastal landscapes
• Protected areas and cultural parks
• Theoretical uses of iconographic and photographic sources in geography
• Historical cartography and archival research in Italy and France
• Development of environmental and cultural resources through local governance
• Alpine and Apennine mountain representation history (19th-20th centuries)

Publications Trends

His recent work integrates GIS with historical cartography to analyze environmental hazards, military infrastructure, and tourism development. A recurring focus is on Italian regions (Liguria, Emilia, Trentino) and interdisciplinary approaches to geographical heritage.

Teaching

He teaches Geography at multiple levels, including first and second cycle degrees in Artistic and Performing Art Heritage, Humanities, and Classical/Modern Philology and Literature.
