Carlangelo Liverani is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, specializing in dynamical systems, statistical mechanics, and mathematical physics. He earned his PhD from Rutgers University (1988) after completing undergraduate studies in Physics at the University of Bologna. Liverani has held visiting positions at prestigious institutions including IHES Paris, Fields Institute, and CNRS.
His research examines macroscopic laws emerging from microscopic dynamical systems, with particular focus on nonequilibrium statistical mechanics and ergodic theory. Liverani has led major research initiatives as Principal Investigator of the European Advanced Grant MALADY (Macroscopic Laws and Dynamical Systems) and multiple PRIN grants on stochastic properties of dynamical systems.
Liverani serves on editorial boards of leading mathematical journals including Communications in Mathematical Physics and Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems. He was Co-Editor-in-Chief of Nonlinearity (2015-2019) and has organized international conferences on dynamical systems and mathematical physics. His honors include invited lectures at the International Congress of Mathematicians (2018) and International Congress on Mathematical Physics (2006).
At Tor Vergata, Liverani has directed the PhD School in Mathematics and currently teaches courses in Mathematical Physics and Analysis. His professional service includes advisory roles for the Center for Nonlinear Mathematics and Applications (Loughborough) and the Center for Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (Rome).
