Carla Yuede serves as Professor of Psychiatry, Neuroscience, and Neurology at Washington University School of Medicine, where she directs the Animal Behavior Core facility. Her academic appointments span multiple departments within the medical school, reflecting interdisciplinary research bridging clinical psychiatry and basic neuroscience.
Education
- Ph.D. from University of Missouri in St Louis (2006)
Her research centers on Alzheimer’s disease mechanisms, specifically Aß metabolism, stress-related neuropathology, and learning/memory processes using transgenic mouse models. She pioneers behavioral phenotyping methodologies to quantify cognitive and motor deficits in neurodegenerative conditions, with particular focus on tauopathies and sleep disturbances. Current work integrates molecular neuroscience with behavioral analysis to identify therapeutic targets.
2025 publications reveal a strong emphasis on translational neuroscience, with studies spanning tauopathy treatment (Nature Neuroscience), stroke recovery metrics, infectious disease biosensors, sleep neurophysiology, and microglial mechanisms in Alzheimer's. This portfolio demonstrates methodological diversity across molecular, systems, and behavioral neuroscience while maintaining focus on neurodegenerative disease pathways.
As Director of the Animal Behavior Core, she oversees standardized phenotyping protocols for locomotor activity, cognitive testing, and sleep analysis used by multiple research groups. The core facility enables high-throughput behavioral screening essential for preclinical therapeutic development in neurology and psychiatry.
