Carla Startin

Carla Startin is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Psychological Wellbeing. She holds a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London (2013) and an MSc in Neuroscience from the University of Nottingham (2009). Her research focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders, particularly Down syndrome and Alzheimer’s disease, with a focus on biomarkers, cognitive markers, and health outcomes. She leads a 2024 project exploring support systems for neurodiverse university students.

Her work spans publications on dementia mortality in Down syndrome, plasma biomarkers, and genetic mechanisms. She actively reviews for journals like Alzheimer's and Dementia, and has mentored students. Her research is widely cited, with significant media and policy attention.
