Carla Richards is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Relations & Advertising at the Ric Edelman College of Communication & Creative Arts, Rowan University. She holds an M.A. from Chatham University and a Ph.D. from Duquesne University. Prior to Rowan, she taught at Carnegie Mellon University.
Her research focuses on environmental and health justice, water insecurity, hate speech on social media, critical public relations, and community-engaged pedagogy. Key themes include water access disparities, infrastructure failures, and the intersection of race, capitalism, and environmental policy.
Her recent work explores rhetorical frameworks for water justice, green gentrification in urban areas, and the dual role of social media in fostering connection and extremism. Her publications appear in venues like the Eastern Communication Conference and National Communication Association meetings.
