Carla Gerona is an Associate Professor in Georgia Tech’s School of History and Sociology within the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. She holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins University and specializes in Early American, Atlantic, and Borderlands history. Her research explores transatlantic Quaker culture, multiethnic interactions in Texas borderlands, and digital/public history methodologies. She is affiliated with ADVANCE IAC and teaches courses on Museum Studies and Digital History.
Her current project, More than Six Flags in the East Texas Pineywoods, examines pre-U.S. annexation Texas using interdisciplinary methods. Gerona has been awarded the Bolton-Cutter Prize, NEH Faculty Fellowship, and a Newberry Library Fellowship. She also received Georgia Tech’s Provost Teaching and Learning Fellowship (2018-2020) for her pedagogical innovations.
Gerona’s research emphasizes visual and digital approaches to history, reflected in her work with students on digital exhibits via the Southern Trails project. She has published extensively on topics including Indigenous spirituality, colonial kinship systems, and Revolutionary-era borderlands dynamics.
