Carla Corroto is a Professor at Otterbein University in the Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies program. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from The Ohio State University and a Master’s in Architecture from the University of Illinois, Chicago. Her teaching focuses on social justice, gender, and family diversity, leveraging her cross-disciplinary expertise.

Corroto’s research explores intersections of gender, race, social class, and disability in architecture and urban design. She employs critical ethnography and narrative analysis to address social justice outcomes, with publications on topics like gender socialization in retail spaces, collaborative auto-ethnography in disability studies, and feminist critiques of architectural practice.
Her recent articles highlight themes in urban sociology, feminist theory, and critical disability studies, reflecting a commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry. Notably, her 2012 article on public and private urban spaces was among the ten most downloaded sociology publications that year, and her 2013 piece on gender and architecture was an editors’ choice for best articles.
