Carla Caringi, PhD, LMSW, IMH-E®, is an Assistant Professor - Research at Wayne State University's Infant Mental Health Training Program and Project Director for the MPSI Project LAUNCH initiative in Detroit. She specializes in reflective supervision/consultation, infant mental health interventions, and professional wellness. Her work involves graduate student mentorship, teaching, research, and community training across Michigan and nationally.
Education: PhD in Social Work (Wayne State University), MSW (University of Michigan), BA in Psychology (Wayne State University). Professional certifications include Licensed Social Worker (Michigan) and Infant Mental Health Mentor Endorsements (IMH-E®).
Research focuses on reflective supervision/consultation’s impact on professional growth and wellness, with emphasis on diversity-informed practices. She leads initiatives like Project LAUNCH promoting young child wellness through home visiting and systems integration.
Awards include the Selma Fraiberg Award and Hiram Fitzgerald Award for scholarship in infant mental health. She chairs the Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health’s Reflective Supervision Research sub-workgroup and serves in multiple professional associations.
Teaches graduate-level infant mental health seminars (SW 8883 & SW 8884) and offers training on reflective supervision, home visiting ethics, and culturally-responsive practice.
