Carla Bywaters

Carla Bywaters is an Assistant Professor of Law and Research Librarian at the Wiener-Rogers Law Library, William S. Boyd School of Law, University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In addition to her faculty role, she chairs the AALL Westpac Diversity and Inclusion Committee and has been recognized as an AALL George A. Strait Scholar.

Research Interests

Professor Bywaters focuses her scholarly and professional efforts on the intersection of legal information science and emerging technologies. She is particularly invested in advancing research methodologies related to federal legislation, Indigenous law, Quebec civil law, and foreign & international legal systems. Her participation in the 13-week Law Librarians’ Institute (CALL/ACBD) underscores her commitment to cutting-edge legal research techniques.

Grants, Fellowships & Advising

Among her notable appointments, Professor Bywaters served as a Remote Metadata Intern and Creative Digital Publications Intern with the Law Library of Congress (2023–2024). She actively advises law faculty and students through direct research consultations and legal reference services, leveraging over two decades of prior experience as a licensed court reporter.
