Carl Rodrigue is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sexualities, Relationships, and Families at the University of Waterloo. He holds a PhD, MA, and BA in sexology from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where he specialized in interdisciplinary research on human sexuality, integrating social psychology, sociology, and philosophy. His research focuses on relationship diversity, particularly non-couple sexual relationships (e.g., one-night stands, friends with benefits), consensual non-monogamy, and topics like HIV, contraception, and sexual violence. He employs both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, including latent class analysis and grounded theory.
Dr. Rodrigue teaches courses on human sexuality, research methods, and statistics. He has contributed to textbook adaptations like Nos Sexualités and served as a research reviewer. His work emphasizes interdisciplinarity, blending theory, empirical research, and social critique. Awards include SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships (2014–2018) and the UQAM Excellence Scholarship (2012–2013).
His publications span journals such as The Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality, Journal of Sex Research, and AIDS Care, addressing diverse themes from pornography’s portrayal of orgasm to HIV-affected family dynamics. He actively presents at conferences like the International Association for Relationship Research and the Canadian Sex Research Forum.
