Carl Luke is an Assistant Professor at Northumbria University, lecturing across undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs in the Department of Social Work, Education & Community Wellbeing. He transitioned to academia from a primary school in the Northumbria ITT partnership in 2021, bringing experience as a class teacher, curriculum leader, Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT) fellow, and Specialist Leader of Education for the Ouseburn Learning Trust.

- Global Collaboration: Partnered with schools in Wuhan, China, to evaluate and develop curriculum design, assessment, and teaching strategies
Carl’s research focuses on simulation-based learning, particularly through the co-development of Coach Lane Primary School, a simulated mainstream classroom. This platform contextualizes challenging concepts, enabling staff and students to explore barriers to learning, assessment strategies, and SEND (Special Educational Needs) integration. His work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), emphasizing education for sustainable development. Recent publications highlight pre-service teacher preparedness, IVR applications, and interprofessional education.
Scientific awards include the 2024 Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence and the 2022 Collaborative Distinguished Teaching Fellowship. His activities involve organizing and participating in conferences like the Advance HE Teaching and Learning Conference (2023) and the 2024 SimulatEd collaboration event.
