معرفی
Carl-Gustaf Bornehag is a Professor and head of Public Health Sciences at Karlstad University, Sweden, and an adjunct professor at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. His research focuses on early life environmental exposures, particularly endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and maternal diet/nutrition, in relation to children’s health and development. He leads major epidemiological studies such as the Dampness in Buildings and Health (DBH) study and the SELMA study, tracking over 10,000 and 2,000 participants respectively. Collaborating internationally, he integrates epidemiological data with experimental models (e.g., cell and animal studies) to understand mechanisms like epigenetics and thyroid dysfunction. His work spans multiple EU projects (EDC-MixRisk, ENDpoiNTs, etc.) and US NIH initiatives, aiming to improve risk assessment of EDCs.
Research Interests: Environmental health, developmental toxicology, epidemiology of child health outcomes, EDC mixtures, neurodevelopmental effects, and translational research linking experimental and observational data.
Key Projects:
- DBH Study: Longitudinal tracking of children’s health from childhood to adulthood.
- SELMA Study: Examines maternal-child health interactions from pregnancy through school age.
- International collaborations across 20+ countries for EDC impact studies.
Grants & Networks: Principal investigator on EU-funded projects, NIH grants, and Swedish national grants (Formas, Swedish Research Council, Forte). Active in global networks like INQUIRE and ENDpoiNTs.
Labs/Teams: Leads interdisciplinary teams focusing on EDC exposure pathways, molecular mechanisms, and clinical translation.
