Carine S. Germond

Carine S. Germond is Professor of European Studies at the Department of Historical and Classical Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She teaches in the BA in European Studies and Foreign Languages and the MA in European Studies programs. Her educational background includes an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Contemporary History from the University of Strasbourg, and MA/BA degrees in German Studies from the University François Rabelais.

Germond's research focuses on the diplomatic and political history of 20th-century Europe with emphasis on Franco-German cooperation, transnational history examining expert networks and societal actors in EU policy-making, and the gendered history of European integration. Her work employs multi-archival comparative and cross-disciplinary approaches.

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on European integration mechanisms, agricultural policy reforms, and bilateral relations. Recent works increasingly examine sustainability integration in EU policies and gendered perspectives in political history.

Germond supervises doctoral candidates and MA students researching EU governance, sustainability policies, and gender representation. She leads projects on maritime sustainability (EUSEAS) and women in EU history (WomEUn), funded through NTNU Ocean and other grants. As an expert consultant, she advises EU institutions including the Committee of the Regions and European Council.
