Carina Schlebusch

Carina Schlebusch is a Professor at the Department of Organismal Biology (Human Evolution Program) at Uppsala University. She holds a PhD in Human Genetics from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and is a Docent. Her research focuses on using genetics to explore human history, particularly African population movements and deep human ancestry. She co-leads the Center for the Human Past Paleo-Research at the University of Johannesburg.

Her work investigates genomic adaptations to environments (e.g., arsenic resistance), migration patterns (Bantu expansion, Fulani pastoralists), and ancient DNA analysis. Publications emphasize regional African histories, population admixture, and genomic tools for underrepresented groups. Her research bridges archaeology, genetics, and anthropology to reconstruct human prehistory.
