Dr. Carina Joly serves as Associate Professor of Piano at Brazil's Federal University of Cariri, holding a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Penn State University and the University of Oklahoma (USA). Her academic background includes postgraduate studies in Music Physiology at Zurich University of the Arts (Switzerland) and Neuropsychology at Faculdade do Norte Novo de Apucarana (Brazil).
Her research pioneers interdisciplinary approaches to musicians' health, specializing in injury prevention through biomechanical optimization of performance techniques. Dr. Joly's pedagogical framework integrates postural alignment and ergonomic principles to transform traditional music education, advocating for systemic reforms that prioritize lifelong physical sustainability in artistic careers. She emphasizes accessibility to healthy performance practices across all skill levels and teaching methodologies.
As an active contributor to the International Society for Music Education's Musicians Health and Wellness Special Interest Group, Dr. Joly has delivered master classes, clinical workshops, and keynote addresses in 15+ countries since 2011—including Brazil, United States, Canada, Germany, and Switzerland—addressing musicians, educators, and healthcare professionals on preventive health strategies.
She maintains a dual practice as both performing artist and health consultant, coaching musicians and teachers to implement injury-prevention protocols in teaching studios and performance settings through evidence-based movement analysis and technique modification.
