Carie Green serves as the DeJong Family Endowed Director of Early Childhood Education and Associate Professor at South Dakota State University's School of Education, Counseling and Human Development. Her work focuses on early childhood environmental education, Indigenous knowledges, and child-environment interactions. She leads research initiatives in rural Alaskan communities, emphasizing decolonizing pedagogies and environmental identity development.
Her research explores children's spatial autonomy, fears/anxieties in natural settings, and intergenerational community science programs. Notable projects include the NSF-funded CAREER grant studying environmental identity across rural/non-rural Alaskan children. She employs innovative methods like sensory tours and draw-write-tell techniques, emphasizing participatory and culturally responsive approaches.
Green advocates for posthumanist perspectives in early childhood education and has published on topics ranging from Inupiaq dance's role in well-being to Arctic environmental stewardship.
