Carey Cole is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Information Systems and Business Analytics at James Madison University's College of Business, where he also contributes to the MBA program. He holds an M.S. in Information and Telecommunication Systems from Johns Hopkins University (1997) and a B.B.A. in Accounting from JMU (1981). His teaching and research focus on workflow systems (Nintex), SharePoint collaboration tools, and business analytics consulting.
Professional experience includes roles as Vice President of Web Services at SEDSI (2009-2011) and Secretary/Board Member of the Shenandoah Valley Technology Council (2007-2011). His scholarly work emphasizes educational technology, systems analysis pedagogy, and factors influencing student career choices in technology fields. He has authored textbooks and peer-reviewed articles on collaboration tools and systems education.
Award-winning educator, Cole received the Kenneth R. Bartee Award for Teaching Innovation in 2011 and 2016, recognizing his work with SharePoint and CIS Capstone revisions. He co-won the Russell Ching Best Paper Award at the 2016 Asia-Pacific DSI Conference. His publications span journals like Journal of Information Systems Education and Behavior & Information Technology.
