Cao Mengqiu

Mengqiu (Matthew) Cao is a Senior Lecturer in Transport, Logistics, and Urban Planning at the University of Westminster's School of Architecture and Cities. He serves as Programme Director for the MSc in Transport Planning and Management and coordinates the School's Doctoral Researcher Development Programme. With a PhD from University College London (UCL), he specializes in interdisciplinary research blending transport analysis and urban studies, collaborating with public authorities and international organizations. He is the UK Ambassador for the Association of European Transport and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS), Royal Statistical Society (RSS), Royal Society of Arts (RSA), and Higher Education Academy (HEA), among others.

His research focuses on transport planning, sustainable urban development, climate change mitigation, freight logistics, and social equity. He edits journals like Journal of Urban Mobility and Digital Transportation and Safety, and has led projects funded by the UK Research Councils, China's National Natural Science Foundation, and international bodies like the Asian Development Bank. Cao teaches modules on transport economics, urban planning theory, and research methods, and has supervised numerous PhD students in transport and urban studies. His work bridges academia and industry, addressing challenges in sustainable cities and resilient transport systems.
