Caner BEKTAŞ serves as a full-time Assistant Professor at Kafkas University's State Conservatory, Traditional Turkish Music Department since 2023, following his appointment as Lecturer in 2012. He previously held administrative roles including Vice Rector of the Conservatory (2020-2022) and Head of the Main Art Department (2012-2013).
His academic credentials include a PhD in Musicology from Dokuz Eylül University (2022), MSc in Sensory Design from Ege University (2015), and BA in Turkish Music from Ege University State Conservatory (2001), complemented by a Goethe-Zertifikat in German (2008).
Dr. BEKTAŞ specializes in Turkish Folk Music and Composition, with research examining music as ethno-symbols among Karapapak Turks, regional traditions in Kars, and the evolution of ashik (minstrel) culture from oral transmission to formal education. His work bridges ethnomusicology, cultural anthropology, and performance studies.
Analysis of his five conference publications (2014-2022) reveals a consistent regional focus on Eastern Anatolia, particularly Kars Province, exploring instruments, dance forms, and performance spaces through interdisciplinary lenses combining historical, sociological, and organological approaches.
He received the 4. Zafer ve Barış Festivali award from Çiğli Municipality (2008) and contributed to the Ministry-funded project "Doğu Dünyasında Kars Müzik Kültürü" (2014).
Though not supervising theses to date, he actively performs as leader of the "Tellerin Nefesi" Bağlama Ensemble, with recent engagements including the 2024 Anadolu Makam Bağlama Günleri and international folklore festivals, demonstrating his integration of scholarly research with artistic practice.
