Candice Lyons is an Assistant Professor of Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Previously, she served as a Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow in History and a Black Studies Dissertation Scholar. Her research interrogates queer methodologies in档案 analysis, challenging cisheteronormative assumptions to uncover marginalized narratives. She co-edited the 2022 E3W Review of Books and contributes to public history platforms like Not Even Past.
Research Focus: Lyons’ work centers on queer investigations into archival storytelling, particularly through slave narratives. Her 2021 Feminist Studies article on Elizabeth Keckley earned the 2020 Feminist Studies Graduate Student Award. She is completing a monograph exploring how non-cisheteronormative approaches expand historical narratives.
