Campbell Shiflett is an Assistant Professor of Musicology at Oklahoma City University (OCU), affiliated with the School of Music's Department of Musicology. His research focuses on 20th-century European and American music, particularly exploring pastoral traditions in French post-WWI compositions and their modernist reinterpretations. He completed his Ph.D. at Princeton University in 2022, preceded by a B.A. in Music and Linguistics from the University of Virginia.
Shiflett's work bridges historical analysis with contemporary critical frameworks, addressing queer aesthetics, feminist scholarship, and intersections of music with poetry and film. His current book project, The Arcadian Ego: Pastoral and Musical Modernism, examines works by Ravel, Satie, Stravinsky, and Auric. Recent publications include studies on Francis Poulenc's queer allusions, feminist engagements with Adrienne Rich's poetry about Beethoven, and Prokofiev/Poulenc compositional relationships.
Before OCU, he taught at NYU's Mannes School of Music and Princeton University. His teaching spans music history, theory, and piano. Though no explicit awards are listed, his scholarly contributions reflect interdisciplinary innovation in musicology.
His research encompasses film music studies, minimalist traditions, and queer musicological methodologies. While no grants or labs are detailed in the text, his academic trajectory highlights a strong focus on historical-critical analysis and modernist musical narratives.
