Dr. Camille Thomas is an Assistant Professor and Department Chair of Physical Education and Human Performance at Southern Utah University (SUU). She holds a B.S. and Ph.D. from Brigham Young University, and an M.S. from Northern Illinois University. Her expertise spans disease prevention, coaching psychology, and exercise science with focuses on cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes pathophysiology. She teaches courses including Clinical Applications of Exercise Science and Research Methods in Exercise Science.
Her research explores sports biomechanics (mountain bike efficiency, rock climbing), soccer tactics analysis, and exercise's therapeutic roles in mental health and chronic illnesses. Thomas emphasizes student-centered learning, prioritizing conceptual understanding over rote instruction. She leads a long-term World Cup soccer strategy analysis project, describing soccer as 'a chess game at 30 miles an hour.'
Thomas actively supports student research initiatives, particularly in exercise's clinical applications. She maintains enthusiasm for outdoor sports science and remains dedicated to empowering students through evidence-based education.
