Camille Manfredi is Professor of Scottish Literature and Visual Arts and Director of the Heritage and Creation in Text and Image (HCTI) research laboratory at the University of Brest's College of Arts, Letters and Civilizations. She serves as Director of the English LLCER Department and leads the Master 2 Research program in Arts, Letters and Civilizations with Texts, Images and Foreign Languages specialization.
Her academic credentials include a Habilitation to Direct Research from Aix-Marseille University (2017), a PhD from the University of Nantes (2005), and the Agrégation (2000). Her research spans contemporary Scottish literature and visual arts (20th-21st centuries), with particular focus on cultural nationalism, intermediality, and environmental humanities. She explores word-image-sound relationships through film poetry, photo-literature, and environmental studies including geocriticism and ecocriticism.
Manfredi's recent publications reveal strong thematic continuity in Scottish cultural production, with increasing emphasis on environmental emergency and intermedial resilience. Her collaborative projects like Intermedial Art Practices as Cultural Resilience (2023) and the Edinburgh Companion to Alasdair Gray demonstrate her leadership in transnational Scottish studies. The recurring focus on waterscapes, apocalypse narratives, and cultural memory indicates her commitment to understanding Scotland through ecological and visual frameworks.
She actively contributes to academic discourse through editorial roles including co-editing thematic issues of E-Rea on environmental emergency and relational studies, and serves as elected member of Section 11 of the CNU (National Council of Universities).
Manfredi's teaching portfolio encompasses Scottish Studies (Culture/Society), British Literature, aesthetic theories, media history, reception theories, and intermediality across undergraduate and graduate levels. Her administrative responsibilities include departmental leadership and laboratory direction within the HCTI research unit.
