Kirsten Stirling is an Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of Lausanne, affiliated with the Faculty of Letters. She assumed the role on 1 February 2019. Her academic journey began at the University of Glasgow, where she earned a thesis titled *The Image of the Nation as a Woman in Twentieth-Century Scottish Literature* (2001). She joined UNIL in 1998 as a graduate assistant while completing her doctoral work.
Her research spans modern English and Scottish literature, with a focus on John Donne’s religious poetry and its interplay with contemporary visual arts. She directed an FNS-funded project (2014–2018) titled *Space, Place and Image in the Poetry and Prose of John Donne* and served as President of the John Donne Society (2017–2018). She also maintains expertise in Scottish literature, evidenced by her monograph *Peter Pan’s Shadows in the Literary Imagination* (Routledge, 2008) and a forthcoming project on Alasdair Gray’s novels and visual art.
Teaching highlights include courses on Donne’s poetry, which inspired her groundbreaking research. Her work bridges literary analysis with art history, emphasizing cross-disciplinary connections.
