Cameron D. Lippard

Dr. Cameron D. Lippard is a Professor and currently serves as the Chair of the Department of Sociology at Appalachian State University. He joined the faculty in 2007 and has made significant contributions to the field of sociology, particularly in areas related to race, immigration, and social inequality. Lippard received his Master's and PhD from Georgia State University, and his BA in Psychology and Sociology from Appalachian State University.

Dr. Lippard's research interests focus on race and racism, immigration, war, and research methods. He has critically examined the treatment of Latino immigrants moving to the American South, studied affirmative action in college admissions, investigated the effects of military participation on veterans, and explored the socio-cultural significance of craft beer, moonshine, and the Confederate battle flag. His work spans multiple disciplines within sociology, with a particular emphasis on understanding racial dynamics in contemporary America.

Dr. Lippard has published eight books and edited volumes, with his most recent work titled "Protecting Whiteness: Whiteness and the Rejection of Racial Equality" released by the University of Washington Press. His research publications span topics from racialized emotions and refugee acceptance to the politics of oppression and color-blind racism. His work demonstrates a consistent focus on understanding racial hierarchies, discrimination, and resistance to diversity in American society.

Dr. Lippard serves as the co-editor of the research journals Sociological Inquiry and Humanity and Society. He also serves on several college, university, and professional committees dedicated to faculty and student success, including serving as Chair of the Council of Chairs at App State.

His teaching portfolio is extensive, covering courses such as The Sociological Perspective, Social Problems in American Society, Sociology of Immigration, Sociology of War, Research Methods, and Race and Ethnic Relations, among others. He has also led Summer Study Abroad Opportunities for students.
