Cameron Beard is a Lecturer in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle. He holds a Master of Building (Research) and a Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours). With over 18 years of industry experience as a Quantity Surveyor, he transitioned to academia in 2019. His research focuses on improving decision-making in cost planning through economic theory, building on his theses exploring ICT adoption barriers and BIM implementation. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) and a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), contributing to professional accreditation processes. His teaching emphasizes practical industry experience, integrating software tools for cost planning and BIM.
He coordinates courses such as ARBE6610 Project Management Principles and ARBE3309 Measurement of Building Works 2. His awards include multiple Staff Excellence Awards for Community Engagement, Equity, and Teaching Innovation. Current roles include Program Convenor for Master of Construction Management (Professional) and member of the Industry Advisory Panel. Research interests span cost planning methodologies, risk estimating, and offsite construction education strategies.
Recent publications address gender equity in construction professions, hazardous materials in sustainable building, and BIM adoption barriers. He has secured $619,070 in grants, including projects on zero-carbon construction partnerships and career pathways for women in surveying. His work bridges industry and academia, advocating for practical, hands-on learning aligned with evolving industry needs.
