Cameron Bass is a Professor in the Biomedical Engineering department at Wayne State University's College of Engineering. With over 30 years of experience, he specializes in injury biomechanics and pathophysiological responses to trauma, focusing on brain, spinal, thoracic, and extremity injuries. His work spans pre-clinical, computational, and physical models scaled to human applications.
Dr. Bass has held leadership roles at the University of Virginia Center for Applied Biomechanics (1996-2008) and as Director of the Injury Biomechanics Laboratory at Duke University (2008-2023). He has over 130 peer-reviewed publications in injury biomechanics, statistical modeling, tissue biomechanics, injury epidemiology, and device development.
His research interests include:
- Assessing human injury/fatality risks from occupational, vocational, military, and vehicular exposures
- Blunt, blast, and ballistic biomechanics
- Mine blast injury assessment
- Spinal injuries in high-speed craft
- Surgical biomechanics in extreme environments
Scientific awards:
- NSF Fellowship
Dr. Bass leads complex multidisciplinary, multi-institutional research projects and teaches courses like Biomechanics of Blast-Related Injuries and Special Topics in Biomedical Engineering. He currently contributes to Wayne State's research project on behind armor blunt trauma injuries
