Research integrates therapeutic frameworks (narrative/solution-focused therapy) with artistic expression. Psychology interests examine how cultural norms impact well-being, particularly through consumerism, sexuality, and happiness studies. Creative work emphasizes ekphrasis—responding visually to art like Mark Rothko’s paintings—and explores humor, identity, and cultural critique through poetry.
Publications reflect sustained engagement with ekphrasis and psychological themes, with recent poetry (2014-2017) dominated by abstract color-field interpretations, nature meditations, and cultural commentary. Awards recognize both literary merit and teaching excellence, including poetry grants (Wurlitzer), writing contest wins (Dallas Morning News), and multiple teaching honors from UC Irvine and USC for pedagogical innovation and mentorship. Clinical practice in Los Angeles focuses on narrative therapy for individuals resisting dominant cultural expectations, operating alongside his art studio.
