معرفی
Josep Calbó Angrill is a Full Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Girona, where he contributes to the School of Sciences. He leads research in atmospheric radiation, climate change, and renewable energy within the Environmental Physics Research Group. His academic leadership includes serving as Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer (2008–2013) and Vice-Rector for Strategic Projects and Internationalization (2018–2025), as well as directing the Institute of the Environment and multiple graduate programs.
- PhD in Sciences, UPC, 1993
- Degree in Physical Sciences, University of Barcelona (UB), 1988
His research focuses on atmospheric radiation, aerosol-cloud interactions, and climate change impacts, with applications in solar and wind energy and regional climate modeling. He has extensively studied radiation trends, cloud effects, and dust impacts in the Mediterranean region. His work combines observational data, satellite remote sensing, and climate modeling.
The 15 most recent publications reflect a strong trend in analyzing surface solar radiation variability, climate model evaluation (CMIP6), renewable energy impacts, and extreme events in the Mediterranean. Keywords span atmospheric science, climatology, and environmental physics, with subfields including radiative transfer, cloud radiative forcing, and photovoltaic efficiency under changing climate conditions.
- Member, Group of Experts on Climate Change in Catalonia
- President, Advisory Council of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia
- Full Member, Institute of Catalan Studies (Science and Technology Section)
- Former Director, Journal Tethys (2014–2024)
- Member, AQU Catalunya Evaluation Commission (2015–2018)
He has directed 10 research projects and supervised 8 doctoral theses. His teaching spans over 25 years, including Fundamentals of Physics in Engineering and Meteorology and Climatology in Environmental Sciences. He has contributed to multiple master's programs at UdG, UB, and UPC. He is actively involved in international research collaborations with institutions in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Russia.
He is a key member of the Environmental Physics Research Group, which conducts observational, modeling, and applied research on climate and atmospheric processes. The group participates in international projects and has a strong record of scientific dissemination through journals, conferences, and policy advisory roles.
