Caitlan Smith is an Instructor of Art History at Arkansas State University. She holds an MPhil in Ancient History from the University of St. Andrews (UK), an MSc in the Hellenistic World from the University of Edinburgh (UK), and dual undergraduate degrees (BFA in Drawing & BA in Art History) from Texas State University. Her research focuses on material culture, ancient Greek athletes, and the intersection of classical antiquity with modern society.

Her doctoral research at the University of Western Australia examines violence in ancient Greek combat sports through the lens of modern sports science. She explores how athletic violence was represented/perceived in ancient Greek society and its reception in contemporary culture. Her published work includes analysis of the webcomic Lore Olympus as a modern reinterpretation of classical myths.
Smith maintains active research interests in classical reception studies, ancient sports history, and material culture analysis. Her studio art practice also engages with Greek mythological themes, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to art history.
