Cain Shelley is a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick. His research focuses on contemporary social/political philosophy, history of political thought, and Analytical Marxism. Current work examines ethics of social justice activism and class oppression/consciousness. He holds a PhD from the London School of Economics (2022) and previously held a postdoctoral fellowship at Goethe University Frankfurt.
He leads the Leverhulme Trust-funded project 'Good Citizenship in an Age of Crisis: A Duty to Organize?' (2024), exploring citizens' obligations to engage in political organizing during economic/democratic/climate crises. His research bridges normative theory with practical activism, emphasizing participatory democracy and egalitarian social change.
Publications include work on Murray Bookchin's democratic municipalism and the role of activist education in fostering social justice. Awards include the prestigious Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship.
