Cafer ŞEN is a Professor of New Turkish Literature at Dokuz Eylül University since 2017. He previously served as Associate Professor at the same institution after receiving his associate professorship from the Higher Education Council (YÖK) in 2011. His academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Turkish Language and Literature from Gazi University Faculty of Education (1993), followed by a Master's (1997) and Doctorate (2004) in New Turkish Literature from Gazi University Institute of Social Sciences.
Dr. Şen's research primarily focuses on the application of phenomenological and psychoanalytic theories to Turkish literature. His scholarly interests encompass Republican era Turkish poetry, Yunus Emre studies, Sufism, Bektashism, Ottoman literary traditions, and the philosophical dimensions of literary works. He has developed a distinctive approach that bridges Western philosophical frameworks with Turkish literary traditions, particularly exploring concepts of void, nothingness, and transcendence in poetry.
His publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output with a concentration on phenomenological literary criticism. His recent work shows increasing engagement with the intersections of psychoanalysis, phenomenology, and Turkish poetic tradition. He has published extensively in journals such as Turkish Studies, Journal of Turkology Research, and Modern Turkish Literature Researches, with particular emphasis on analyzing Turkish poetry through philosophical lenses.
Dr. Şen has supervised at least one Master's thesis on values in novels published between 1930-1940. He has contributed to significant national projects including the Turkish Language Historical Dictionary Project and the Turkish World Common Literature Project, specifically authoring sections on National Literature Period Poetry and literary concepts for the Turkish World Literature Concepts and Terms Encyclopedia.
As an active academic, he serves on editorial boards for prestigious journals including BİLİG, ERDEM, TÜBAR, GAZİ TÜRKİYAT, and TURKISH STUDIES, demonstrating his standing within the Turkish literary academic community. His scholarly activities extend to numerous national and international conferences where he has presented research on diverse topics spanning from classical Ottoman poetry to contemporary literary theory.
